Some reflections on the effect of the occupation on children in Jayyous.

May 13th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Article 01, Article 07

It is difficult to get recent information about the effect of the occupation on children. One has to put together pieces of information from different sources. We will start with features of the occupation by which children are affected most in their daily life.

The Annual Report 2007 of B`Tselem is a good starting point. The information given there can be divided into two groups: extraordinary incidents and everyday incidents by which children (under age 18) are affected.

Living in the Shadow of the South Gate in Jayyous

January 16th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Article 03

I am sitting in the olive groves at the little hut of a friend whose land is in the South of Jayyous. The fire is burning telling me that the family has been here this morning lovingly tending to the land.

The sun is shining; it rays restoring some of the hope and energy taken from the community after yesterday’s demonstration. Walking here, I passed a family sitting under the shade of their olive trees having their lunch replenishing their bodies after working hard on their land. The land and the people are at ease.

Why are Palestinians Victims

I, an Israeli, feel bad for the Palestinians Meet Wally Sparks movie full

No matter what your stance is on the Israel/Palestinian conflict, you would have to be stone hearted not to realize that the average Palestinian in Gaza suffers from these constant battles. The biggest reason has to be that those who purportedly speak for them or lead them have time and again betrayed them. From 1948 when the surrounding Arab countries went to war against the newly minted and internationally recognized State of Israel to destroy it, the Palestinians came out the losers.

The Effect of Gaza on Jayyous

January 9th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Article 17

Since December 27th 2008 when Israel launched its air attacks on Gaza days have been filled with reports of increasing number of deaths and as I write the current number of fatalities stands at 550 Palestinians. The press have difficulty confirming the number of Palestinians killed. Perhaps this is because the international press are not permitted to enter Gaza, or perhaps it is because of the huge numbers of people killed. According to the United Nations office for Humanitarian Affairs in Jerusalem at least 20 percent of the fatalities and 40 percent of the injuries are women and children. While Israel says that they are not targeting civilians, civilians nevertheless are being killed on a daily basis. Rocket fire from Gaza into Israel has killed 4 people. [1] A Mysterylaska dvdrip

Replaced

January 5th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Article 03

Clouds have been replaced with F16’s.
Rain has been replaced with bombs.
Soil is damp with the blood of four hundred and twenty people.
Joy that came with the rain, replaced with people’s mourning.
Life brought by rain, replaced by death brought by military might.
Calls to prayer replaced with calls for life saving blood donations,
Even though there is no hope that the people would receive it.
Smiles replaced with tears
“Marhaba” replaced with “have you seen the news”.
Hope replaced with fear.
Political promises replaced with peoples lives
Death and killing used for politically gain.
Eeb, eeb, eeb aleek.

And the world looks on.
Given what it needed
To hold their interest.
Our papers and news reports
Spilling out their rhetoric,
Do not stop to ask the real questions
What is the alternative to killing?
Why do we allow history repeat itself?

While the people of this land die
We pray bring back the rain,
That brings with it joy,
That brings with it life.
Let the people breath,
Let the people live.

As the night falls, we wonder
What will we replace tomorrow with?

Definition Of Human Rights

January 4th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Article 01

Human rights mean to me being able to live without fear of being hurt. They mean being able to wake up in the morining and not having to worry about being unfairly arrested or harmed. They mean knowing that if you do get arrested then you know you will be fairly and rightfully represented in a court of law. They mean knowing you won’t be detained for making your voice heard or for speaking out for what you believe in. They mean knowing that you can believe in what you want, look and talk how you want without being abused for it. It means knowing that you will never be tortured or locked in a cell for years wondering if anyone knows you’re there or if you will ever make it alive and see the light of day again.

It is fundamentally wrong for a person to take another person’s life from them, It goes against all that makes us human, all the makes this world a fair place to live in. There aren’t many people who don’t lmpw this and yet the killing, torture and wrongful imprisonment of hundreds of people in Israel and Palestine still continues.  Everyday people lose sight of what is wrong and what is right and most importantly they lose sight of that basic understanding that is needed in the fight for upholding all human rights around the world.

Human rights mean that people can read essays such as this one and be able to talk about them, safe in the knowledge that nothing will happen them or no one will harm them or their families for doing so. They mean standing up to those who try to oppress people and showing them that violence is not the way forward in today’s world. To me human rights mean not being afraid, they mean not living in oppression, and most of all, they mean fairness.

Charles Tarazi - New York and London, United States and England
By Claudia Pena*

In 1948, Palestine was beautiful and vibrant. There were fields of olive trees, people everywhere, much commerce, and a thriving society. Palestinian culture was rich in its food, familial traditions, music and dance. Muslims, Christians and Jews lived side by side , all part of the same social fabric.

Charles Tarazi was twelve years old when his family could no longer stay safe in Palestine. Zionist terrorism was rampant- assassinations were out of control and several massacres had already taken place.
